Jack Grealish‘s Manchester City future is back in the spotlight, with reports suggesting the winger has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, including champions Al Hilal, while Everton have also been linked with a fresh loan move.

The 30-year-old returned to the Etihad Stadium this summer after his season-long loan at Everton officially ended on 30 June.

His time on Merseyside was disrupted by a stress fracture in his foot, an injury that kept him out for three months and ended any hope of forcing his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Before the setback, though, Grealish had shown flashes of his best form, winning the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for August after a lively start to the campaign.

Al Hilal interest emerges in recent weeks

According to reports, Al Hilal are among the Saudi Pro League clubs monitoring Grealish’s situation. The Saudi top flight has continued to lure established Premier League names with lucrative contracts, and Grealish would represent another high-profile arrival should a move materialise.

Everton, meanwhile, have not ruled out bringing Grealish back to Merseyside, even if it means doing so on loan again rather than in a permanent deal.

Everton manager was a keen admirer of the player during his time at Hill Dickinson Stadium and would likely welcome him back into the fold given the chance.

City’s position, though, is said to be firm. The club would prefer to sell Grealish outright this summer rather than sanction another temporary switch.

Having paid a British transfer record of £100m for him when he arrived from Aston Villa in 2021, City are understood to be keen to recoup as much of that fee as possible rather than continue paying his reported £300,000-a-week wages for a player who has fallen down the pecking order.

Where does Grealish himself stand?

Grealish’s own preference, as things stand, appears to lean towards staying in England.

Despite the Saudi interest, the England international is thought to value his prospects of remaining in the Premier League, a competition he has graced since his breakthrough at Villa Park more than a decade ago.

Enzo Maresca, who succeeded Pep Guardiola as Manchester City head coach this summer, is expected to assess Grealish as part of his wider evaluation of the squad.

The Italian’s arrival had briefly appeared to offer Grealish a lifeline after his exit had once looked close to certain.

Maresca worked as one of Guardiola’s assistants during City’s Treble-winning 2022-23 campaign and will be familiar with what Grealish can offer when fit and firing.

Since joining City for a then British-record fee, Grealish has collected seven major trophies, including the Treble in his second season.

But his influence waned significantly over the following two campaigns, and his time under Guardiola became increasingly peripheral, culminating in that move to Everton last August.

What happens next in th coming days

With pre-season now under way, time is not on Grealish’s side if he wants clarity before the new campaign begins.

City are likely to push for a swift resolution, whether that means a permanent sale to a Premier League rival, a switch to Saudi Arabia, or an agreement to send him back out on loan to Everton or elsewhere.
