Man City superstar reportedly tells agent he wants to leave after Guardiola departure

Real Madrid are keeping a close watch on the future of Manchester City defender Ruben Dias after reports emerged that the Portugal international is considering a new chapter away from the Etihad Stadium.

Dias, regarded as one of the leading centre-backs in European football, is believed to be weighing up his options following a period of uncertainty at City after Pep Guardiola’s departure.

CaughtOffside claims that the defender has asked his representatives to assess possible opportunities elsewhere, placing several major European clubs on alert ahead of the summer transfer window.

Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich are among the clubs following developments closely, but Real Madrid’s interest has attracted particular attention as the Spanish giants continue plans to strengthen their defence for the future.

The 29-year-old has been a key figure at Manchester City since arriving from Benfica in 2020. His leadership, defensive organisation and calmness in possession quickly established him as one of the foundations of Guardiola’s side during one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.

City rewarded Dias with a long-term contract extension that runs until 2029, a move which highlighted how highly he is valued at the Etihad Stadium.

His estimated market value of around €60m also reflects both his quality and experience at the highest level of the game.

Despite his importance to the club, questions surrounding Manchester City’s direction after Guardiola have led to growing speculation about the futures of several senior players.

Dias is now among the names being linked with a possible departure, with Europe’s elite clubs sensing a rare opportunity.

Real Madrid are expected to prioritise defensive reinforcements this summer as the club prepares for the next phase of its squad rebuild.

Injuries and age concerns surrounding experienced defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger have forced the Spanish side to assess long-term alternatives capable of leading their back line for years to come.

Dias is seen as a player who could immediately bring authority, composure and winning experience to the Bernabeu.

His performances in England and Europe over recent seasons have strengthened his reputation as one of the most reliable defenders in world football, making him an attractive option for Madrid’s recruitment team.

The Spanish club are also believed to admire Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol, underlining their determination to reshape their defensive options ahead of next season.

Manchester City face major decision over defensive leader

While interest in Dias continues to grow, Manchester City remain in a strong negotiating position due to the player’s lengthy contract and the club’s financial strength.

Any attempt to sign the defender would likely require a substantial offer, particularly given his influence within the squad.

However, reports suggest Dias is open to embracing a “fresh challenge” after winning every major trophy available during his time in Manchester.

Having already achieved domestic and European success with City, the Portugal international may feel the moment is right to test himself in a different environment.

The possibility of joining Real Madrid could prove especially appealing. The Spanish giants remain one of football’s most prestigious clubs, and the opportunity to play at the Santiago Bernabeu is often viewed as a defining step in a player’s career.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are eager to avoid further disruption after an underwhelming campaign by their own high standards.

The club are already preparing for life after Guardiola, and losing one of their most experienced defenders would represent another major challenge during a period of transition.
