Premier League club to break transfer record after Man City put player on market

A Premier League club could be edging towards what could become the biggest transfer in the club’s history after Manchester City reportedly opened the door for the sale of one of their star players.

Tottenham Hotspur have renewed their pursuit of Savinho following a failed attempt to sign him last summer, and there is growing belief inside the club that a deal can now be completed.

The North London side remain determined to strengthen their squad after another disappointing Premier League campaign and see Savinho as one of the key pieces in their rebuilding project under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Brazilian forward has already indicated his willingness to make the move, according to reports, leaving Tottenham focused on negotiating a fee with City that could surpass their current transfer record.

Tottenham’s largest signing to date remains Dominic Solanke, whose arrival in 2024 cost an initial £55 million with an additional £10 million in performance-related bonuses.

However, after back-to-back finishes of 17th in the league table, the club are now prepared to invest far more heavily in order to restore competitiveness and provide De Zerbi with a squad capable of challenging higher up the table.

The Italian coach is believed to have made attacking reinforcements a priority during the summer window.

While Tottenham are also working to add experience and leadership through the proposed free-agent arrivals of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, attention has increasingly shifted towards bringing more creativity and unpredictability into the final third.

Savinho has long been admired by Tottenham’s recruitment team. Last summer, Spurs submitted two offers for the winger, with the highest believed to be around €80 million, equivalent to roughly £70 million.

Manchester City rejected those approaches at the time, opting instead to keep the Brazilian as part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.

City’s stance was influenced by uncertainty surrounding Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid.

The Sky Blues had considered a move for the Brazilian international and were prepared to let Savinho leave if Rodrygo arrived at the Etihad Stadium. But with the Madrid player remaining in Spain, City changed course and moved quickly to secure Savinho’s future with a new contract.

Despite that extension, the winger’s long-term position at City has once again become uncertain after a difficult campaign in which regular playing time proved hard to come by.

Spurs ready to push ahead with major investment

Tottenham’s determination to revisit the deal highlights the scale of De Zerbi’s ambitions as he looks to reshape the squad ahead of the new season.

The former Brighton manager is understood to be a strong admirer of Savinho’s direct style, technical quality and ability to stretch opposition defences.

Club officials reportedly believe the Brazilian would bring the pace and creativity needed to improve a side that struggled badly for consistency throughout the previous campaign.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed that discussions around the player have intensified once again after Tottenham reignited their interest.

“Keep an eye on Tottenham and Savinho,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “Last summer they wanted to go all in for Savinho. They sent two official bids to Man City, but City decided not to proceed.”

Romano explained that Manchester City’s decision was closely linked to their interest in Rodrygo at the time.

“It’s a story from August 2025,” he added. “City were considering going for Rodrygo from Real Madrid and letting Savinho go to Tottenham.”

The transfer expert also pointed to the change in direction that followed when City failed to secure Rodrygo’s signature.

“Then the Rodrygo deal was not possible and also City decided to trust Savinho, so they decided to offer him a new contract and in September he put pen to paper.”

Although City ultimately kept the winger, the player’s situation has evolved over the past year. Competition for places in Guardiola’s attack has remained fierce, limiting Savinho’s opportunities to establish himself as a regular starter.

Romano suggested that the Brazilian is now eager for a more prominent role elsewhere.

“But this season for Savinho at Man City has not been easy,” Romano said. “He wants to play regularly and now Spurs are prepared to go for it.”

Tottenham’s interest appears to align perfectly with the player’s desire for consistent football, and negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
