20-year-old Brazilian wants to join Man City and replace departing club legend

There is ambition, and then there is the kind of ambition that aligns perfectly with a club entering a period of change.

At Manchester City, both forces appear to be meeting at the right moment, as a 20-year-old Brazilian continues to impress in Spain while making no secret of his desire to play under Pep Guardiola next season.

The Sky Blues are approaching what could be a defining summer. A defensive reshuffle looks increasingly likely, with experienced figures potentially moving on and the club preparing to refresh key areas of the squad.

Against that backdrop, attention has naturally turned towards emerging talent already within the club’s wider system.

Among those names, one stands out more than most. Vitor Reis, signed for £29.5 million from Palmeiras, has spent the season gaining valuable experience on loan at Girona.

Since arriving in Europe during the January 2025 transfer window, the defender has quickly adapted to the demands of top-flight football, building a reputation as one of the most promising young centre-backs currently operating in La Liga.

A rising presence in the Spainsh La Liga

For a player still in the early stages of his professional career, Reis has shown a level of composure that belies his age.

Logging over 2,500 minutes of senior football this season, the Brazilian has been central to Girona’s push for European qualification. His performances have not gone unnoticed, particularly in high-pressure situations.

One such occasion came in a 1-1 draw away at Real Madrid, where Reis delivered a resilient display against some of the most formidable attacking talent in world football.

It was the type of performance that reinforces why he continues to feature prominently in scouting discussions back in Manchester.

His style fits the modern mould Guardiola has long favoured. Comfortable on the ball, capable of progressing play from deep, and dominant in aerial duels, Reis offers a blend of technical quality and physical assurance.

These attributes have been reflected in his statistical output, particularly his passing accuracy and defensive reliability.

That development has come at an ideal time for Manchester City. The club is preparing for potential departures that could reshape the squad.

Opportunity knocks at the Etihad for Reis

It is within this context that Reis’ ambitions take on added significance.

According to report by the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, the Brazilian is eager to return to the Etihad Stadium and become part of Guardiola’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Rather than pursuing another temporary move, he is believed to be keen on testing himself at the highest level within City’s first-team environment.

That desire coincides with a period where opportunities may be more accessible than usual.

Injuries have already stretched the squad, with Ruben Dias ruled out of a crucial title clash due to an ankle problem, while concerns remain over the fitness of John Stones. Such circumstances underline the importance of depth, particularly in defence.

For a player like Reis, the pathway appears increasingly clear. His technical profile aligns closely with Guardiola’s demands, especially for defenders capable of initiating attacks and maintaining possession under pressure.

In that sense, he may already possess many of the qualities required to contribute at the highest level.
