Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has issued a stark message to his team-mates, insisting the coming weeks could define their entire campaign.
With the business end of the season approaching, City find themselves navigating a decisive spell across four competitions.
A packed schedule before the international break leaves little margin for error, and Silva has made clear that any further slip-ups could carry heavy consequences.
Pep Guardiola’s side begin this critical run with an FA Cup tie at Newcastle United, seeking an immediate response to their frustrating midweek draw against Nottingham Forest.
That result allowed Arsenal to extend their advantage at the summit of the Premier League, leaving City trailing by seven points in the title race.
Their domestic challenge offers little respite. Before April 12, City have just one league fixture – a trip to West Ham United – but it is sandwiched between two heavyweight Champions League encounters with Real Madrid.
The Carabao Cup final against Arsenal on March 22 further heightens the stakes in what promises to be a relentless period.
Silva, speaking candidly after the Forest stalemate, did not attempt to soften the reality facing his side.
“In these few weeks we’re not going to win a lot, but we can lose a lot,” Silva said per Daily Mail
“This month can keep us alive to fight for the competitions until the end, or it can put us down and we just go for one or two competitions. Hopefully, we will still be in all four of them in a month’s time.”
While silverware remains within reach on multiple fronts, the Portugal international suggested City’s destiny rests firmly in their own hands.
The draw against Forest left Silva visibly irritated, particularly after a momentary defensive lapse allowed Elliot Anderson – a player City have monitored with interest – to curl home a late equaliser.
For a side renowned for control and composure, such errors have proved uncharacteristically frequent this season.
City had taken the lead, only to relinquish it once more. It has become a pattern that Silva believes has undermined their title chance and left them dependent on others to falter.
“It definitely puts us in a worse position,” he added.
“Still nine games to go for us, which is a long way. We’re not happy, obviously. We wanted to be closer to put a bit more pressure on them.”
The frustration stems not from isolated incidents, but from recurring themes. Late concessions and squandered advantages have cost valuable points at key junctures.

“This feels a bit frustrating and worse for us. If we look at the games that we have, it’s going to be a tough job.
“It’s for us to control better these moments. It’s on us that we didn’t win, that we conceded the goal in the last minute against Chelsea, for example, at home, that we didn’t win against Brighton at home.
“Or that we were winning 2-0 against Tottenham away and we let them come back into that game. Forest again twice we were leading and we let them come back. So that’s all on us.”
With nine league matches remaining, the arithmetic of the title race leaves little room for complacency. Arsenal’s advantage means City must combine near-perfection with hope that their rivals falter. But Silva’s focus remains internal.
Despite the setbacks, City’s ambitions remain undiminished. They are still competing on four fronts, a testament to the depth and quality within Guardiola’s squad. The challenge, Silva insists, is to channel frustration into focus.
“But we’re still in four competitions so there’s no point in looking back now and crying, we need to go for the next game and hopefully continue fighting for all the titles, which is our main goal.”
