A fresh twist has emerged in the summer transfer market, with reports claiming that Manchester City and Juventus are both monitoring the situation of Alexander Nübel as his time at FC Bayern Munich appears to be coming to an end.
The 29-year-old shot-stopper is said to be attracting growing interest after it became increasingly clear that he has no long-term future with the German champions.
Nübel spent the last three seasons on loan at VfB Stuttgart, where he established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most dependable goalkeepers, but a permanent switch now looks unlikely.
According to reports from Sport Bild, both City and Juventus have already made contact with Bayern regarding the Germany international, while discussions are also believed to have taken place with the player’s representatives.
Bayern are reportedly seeking a fee between €10m and €15m for the goalkeeper, a valuation that played a major role in Stuttgart stepping away from negotiations.
Despite Stuttgart’s reluctance to complete a permanent deal, head coach Sebastian Hoeneß was reportedly eager to continue working with Nübel.
The report states that Hoeneß had communicated his wishes clearly to the club’s hierarchy, hoping the goalkeeper would remain part of the squad ahead of next season.
However, finances ultimately became the stumbling block. Nübel’s wage demands are believed to have exceeded what Stuttgart were prepared to offer.
Reports suggest Bayern had been covering the majority of his estimated €11m annual salary during the loan arrangement, contributing around €7m themselves.
The goalkeeper was also reportedly unwilling to take a significant pay reduction in order to stay permanently with the DFB-Pokal finalists.
Nübel’s final appearance for Stuttgart came in Saturday’s German Cup final, ironically against his parent club Bayern.
It marked his 129th game for the Swabian side, bringing an end to a successful spell that helped rebuild his reputation after difficult years earlier in his career.

With Nübel now expected to depart, Stuttgart are preparing to hand responsibility to highly-rated goalkeeper Dennis Seimen for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
For Bayern, the decision to move on from Nübel appears to have been settled some time ago.
Reports claim the goalkeeper was informed during a “secret meeting” with Bayern goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner that he was no longer part of the club’s plans.
That revelation effectively closed the door on any possibility of Nübel eventually succeeding Bayern’s long-serving number one. Instead, the focus has now shifted towards finding the goalkeeper a new destination before the transfer window closes.
While no agreement has yet been reached with either Manchester City or Juventus, Bayern’s willingness to sell suggests developments could accelerate in the coming weeks.
