Chelsea told to hijack Man City’s £69m ‘Special’ target in the summer

Chelsea have been encouraged to rival Manchester City in the race to sign highly rated young forward , whose breakthrough campaign has made him one of the most talked-about prospects in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old Junior Kroupi has enjoyed a remarkable debut season in England’s top flight, writing his name into the record books by becoming the first teenager since Robbie Keane in the 1999/2000 campaign with Coventry City to hit double figures for goals in his first season.

That achievement alone has elevated his reputation, but it is the manner of his performances—composed, instinctive and fearless—that has truly turned heads across the division.

Reports suggest that the interest in the Bournemouth forward is already intensifying ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Metro, Manchester City are monitoring the situation closely, with discussions believed to have taken place between the player’s representatives and the club’s hierarchy.

Sporting director Hugo Viana is said to have held talks regarding a potential deal, with Bournemouth expected to demand a fee in the region of €80 million (£69m) for their prized asset.

Chelsea urged to enter the race

While City may currently be leading the pursuit, former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda believes his old club should not stand by and allow such a promising talent to slip through their grasp.

With Chelsea continuing to reshape their squad and address inconsistencies in attack, Kroupi has been identified as a player who could fit into their long-term vision.

“He’s a very good talent,” Malouda said. “I played against his father, I remember, in France; he was an Ivory Coast international player.

“He did very well last season, one of the top players in France, and I’m very happy to see him doing well this season as well.”

Malouda’s endorsement reflects a growing belief that Kroupi possesses the attributes required to thrive at the highest level.

Quick off the mark, intelligent in his movement and capable of finishing with both precision and composure, the young striker has demonstrated maturity beyond his years.

For Chelsea, who have often struggled for consistency in front of goal, such qualities would be invaluable.

There may also be another factor working in Chelsea’s favour. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has been linked with a possible move to Stamford Bridge, with speculation suggesting he could be among the candidates to take over on a permanent basis.

Should that scenario materialise, Chelsea could gain an advantage in negotiations, given Iraola’s familiarity with the player and his development.

Iraola himself has not been shy in his praise of Kroupi, describing him as a “special” talent during the season.

That label has only added to the growing sense that the teenager is destined for a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs sooner rather than later.

Patience advised over rapid promotion

Despite the excitement surrounding Kroupi, Malouda has cautioned against rushing the player into a high-pressure environment too soon.

The step up to a club of Chelsea’s stature can be demanding, particularly for a young forward still refining his game.

“Again, I believe he needs to confirm it for one more season, at least in the Premier League, before going into one of the big clubs because I mentioned the competitive aspect,” he added.

“They’re looking to get game time and the confidence that comes from that. He might not get it at a top club if he jumps too early.

“So, I think he came to the Premier League to develop himself, to challenge himself, and he needs to keep doing that.

“So, even if a club like Chelsea were able to sign him, which would be a good thing, to send him on loan would be a better option than to keep him in the squad without game time.”
