Player ready for Man City move as he sends emotional goodbye message to fans

Feyenoord defender Givairo Read has admitted he is aware of growing speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City.

The 20-year-old right-back has emerged as one of the most highly regarded young defenders in Dutch football, and reports over recent months have repeatedly connected him with some of the continent’s biggest clubs.

Manchester City are believed to have monitored his development closely, with scouts reportedly tracking his performances in the Eredivisie since late last year.

The Sky Blues have been searching for long-term options in several positions, and Read’s performances have placed him firmly on their radar.

According to Sport Witness, Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest, although recent reports in the Netherlands suggest City are currently leading the race should the player become available during the summer transfer window.

Despite the increasing attention surrounding his future, Read insists that transfer rumours are not occupying much of his focus at present.

Speaking in an interview discussed by Dutch media outlets, the Feyenoord youngster acknowledged the links but stressed that discussions regarding his future are primarily handled by his representatives.

“I read them too, and that would be a compliment, but to be honest, I don’t concern myself with that much right now. That is something for my agent,” he said.

The defender clearly understands the significance of being associated with institutions of Manchester City and Bayern Munich’s stature.

Read determined to make his own decision

While opinions continue to circulate regarding the best path forward, Read made it clear that external voices will not ultimately determine the next stage of his career.

“To be honest, and I certainly don’t want to come across as arrogant, I don’t really listen to what everyone has to say. Ultimately, it is my career, and I make the choices myself,” Read explained.

The defender emphasised that, although advice from others can be valuable, the final decision regarding his future will belong to him and those closest to him.

“Everyone has an opinion, but at the end of the day, I have to make the decision myself. At this moment, I don’t know what the future holds.

“If an opportunity arises, I will discuss it with my family and agent, the people closest to me who know me best.”

Those comments leave the door open to a possible transfer while simultaneously underlining that no definitive decision has yet been made.

Read appears content to evaluate any potential offers carefully before deciding whether remaining in Rotterdam or moving abroad represents the best option for his continued growth.

His long-term contract, which runs until 2029, also strengthens Feyenoord’s position. With no immediate pressure to sell, the Dutch club can afford to wait for an offer they believe reflects the defender’s value.

According to Transfermarkt, Read currently carries an estimated market value of around €25 million, although any bidding war involving clubs such as Manchester City and Bayern Munich could significantly increase the final price.

Emotional message to Feyenoord supporters

Although Read remains uncertain about what the coming months may bring, he has already indicated how much Feyenoord and its supporters mean to him.

Asked about the possibility of leaving the club, the defender delivered a heartfelt message to the fans who have supported his development throughout his time in Rotterdam.

“Suppose it comes to the point where I make a transfer, I certainly want to say something to the supporters. That I am very grateful to them for the years I have been here,” he added.

The appreciation he expressed continued as he reflected on the relationship he has built with the club’s fanbase.

“I have always felt a lot of love and received a lot of trust. (..) I hope that, should a transfer come about, they will grant me that as well. Whatever happens: Feyenoord supporters really are the best.”
