Manchester City agreed a deal to sign a talented midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur, and the move could be completed in the next few hours.
The Cityzens have, over the past few years, become one of the producers of talented academy players. They are always ready to bring young and future stars to the City Football Academy, and Dexter Oliver could be the latest signing.
According to Romano Fabrizio, Manchester City agreed a deal to sign the highly-rated teenage midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur and are in the process of finalizing everything necessary documents. The youngster is expected to join the City’s Under-18 or Under-21 squads.
The addition of Dexter Oliver to the City youth teams is part of the club’s strategic plan to develop young players and sell them later. Only a few of the Academy graduates made it to the first team squad, particularly since Pep Guardiola became the Head Coach in 2016.
Academy Players Promoted To First Team By Pep Guardiola
Manchester City’s first team squad is full of superstars and experienced players. Many top-rated players who couldn’t be relegated to the bench had to move to other clubs. Therefore, it is a difficult task for young talents from the City Football Academy to get promoted to Pep Guardiola’s team.
However, some extremely talented players were able to make it through. Phil Foden, Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, Nico O’Reilly, and James McAtee are top Academy products who have made it to the first team under the Spanish coach.
The most notable among them is Phil Foden. The Englishman not only got promoted, but he has also become a very important player for the City boss. He won the Premier League Player of the Year award the last time City won the English top-flight league.
Rico Lewis is another player with a similar situation. The defender seems to have found a permanent place in the first team squad due to his ability to play multiple roles. He had 42 appearances for the club last season, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists in the process.
Meanwhile, while it seems that the club will keep the likes of Oscar Bobb and Nico O’Reilly, the future of James McAtee is up in the air. The England International may leave Manchester City this summer over a lack of playing time.
Although he had 26 appearances for the club last season, he only started in eight of these matches. According to multiple reports, the 22-year-old will leave City and join a team that could assure him of getting into the first eleven.
