Man City to complete signing of exciting winger on five-year contract

Manchester City appear to be closing in on another highly-rated young talent, with French winger Mathys Detourbet reportedly edging closer to a move to the Premier League giants.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Troyes and has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in French football.

His displays throughout the 2025-26 season have attracted significant attention, with City now seemingly ready to secure his signature as part of their long-term recruitment strategy.

Detourbet’s rise has been difficult to ignore. Blessed with pace, technical ability and creativity in possession, the young attacker has consistently demonstrated the qualities that make him one of the most promising wide players in the French second tier.

His ability to beat defenders, create opportunities for teammates and influence matches from different attacking positions has reportedly convinced City that he is a player worth investing in.

The connection between Troyes and Manchester City through the City Football Group structure has also allowed the Premier League club to closely monitor his progress.

With scouts and decision-makers already familiar with his development, City have been able to assess both his strengths and the areas of his game that still require refinement.

According to French football journalist Fabrice Hawkins, a deal is now approaching completion.

Hawkins reports that Manchester City are expected to pay approximately €25 million, including bonuses, to bring the teenager to the Etihad Stadium.

Although personal terms have not yet been finalised, there is a growing expectation that those negotiations will not present any major obstacles.

If everything proceeds as anticipated, Detourbet could soon become the latest young prospect to join City’s growing pool of emerging talent.

Loan move could accelerate development

While the prospect of joining one of Europe’s elite clubs is an exciting one, the current plan appears focused on ensuring Detourbet continues to develop through regular first-team football.

Reports indicate that the winger is expected to spend next season on loan with AS Monaco, with an option available to extend the arrangement for an additional campaign. Such a move would represent an important next step in his progression.

Monaco have established a reputation for developing young players and regularly competing near the top end of Ligue 1.

The opportunity to perform in a more demanding environment, against stronger opposition and under increased pressure, could prove invaluable for a player still in the early stages of his career.

At Monaco, he would likely gain experience in matches where expectations are high and results matter every week.

Learning to cope with those demands is often a crucial part of a young player’s development, particularly for one who hopes to eventually compete for a place in star-studded squad.

The move would also allow City to continue monitoring his progress while giving him the platform to refine his decision-making, tactical understanding and consistency at a higher level.
