Man City decide player’s future after receiving €80m+ offer for him

Manchester City are showing no signs of softening their position over the future of Joško Gvardiol despite growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Croatia international has emerged as one of the most sought-after defenders in world football following another impressive campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

His performances have reportedly attracted attention from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Bayern Munich have also been monitoring the situation closely.

Interest in the defender has intensified in recent months, with several reports suggesting that leading European clubs view the versatile centre-back as a long-term solution for their defensive needs.

However, City remain determined to keep hold of one of their most valuable assets.

The Premier League side invested heavily to bring Gvardiol to England and consider him a central part of their future plans.

Sources close to the situation indicate that the club’s hierarchy have no intention of sanctioning a transfer during the current window.

Recent reports have linked the 24-year-old with a possible move to Spain. Earlier claims suggested that Gvardiol’s representatives had explored the possibility of a transfer to Real Madrid, while Barcelona have also been credited with a strong interest in securing his signature.

The defender’s reputation continues to grow across Europe thanks to his ability to operate both as a central defender and as a left-back.

His composure in possession, defensive awareness and physical presence have made him one of the most highly rated players in his position.

Barcelona and Real Madrid continue pursuit

Competition for Gvardiol’s services appears to be intensifying, particularly in Spain.

According to Fussball Transfers, Barcelona have taken significant steps in an effort to convince the player to consider a move to La Liga.

The Catalan club are believed to have submitted a proposal worth more than €80 million in an attempt to test Manchester City’s resolve.

However, the English club’s response has been unequivocal. City are not interested in opening negotiations and remain committed to retaining the Croatian international.

Reports from Germany suggest Bayern Munich have fallen behind in the race despite their long-standing admiration for the defender.

The Bundesliga champions had been considered serious contenders, but recent developments appear to have shifted the balance in favour of Spanish interest.

Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is understood to be a major admirer of the defender and has reportedly approved efforts to strengthen his back line with a player of Gvardiol’s calibre.

The interest is not limited to Barcelona. Real Madrid have also continued to monitor developments closely.

Earlier this week, José Mourinho identified both him and Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori as his preferred defensive options for Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are believed to be assessing their defensive recruitment strategy and see Gvardiol as a player capable of contributing immediately while also serving as a long-term investment.

City’s contract plans and firm transfer stance

Rather than entertaining offers, Manchester City are actively working towards securing Gvardiol’s future through a new contract.

The defender is already tied to the club until 2028, but reports from Croatia have suggested that City are preparing an improved renewal package in recognition of his importance to the team.

The club’s objective is clear: keep one of their most reliable defenders at the Etihad for the foreseeable future.

Even if negotiations over an extension take time, City’s position remains unchanged.

Reports indicate that the club are determined to retain the player until at least 2027, regardless of whether a new agreement is immediately reached.
