Man City close to signing Bernardo Silva replacement in a big transfer business

Manchester City are increasingly confident they have moved into pole position to secure the signature of Elliot Anderson, with the Nottingham Forest midfielder believed to favour a switch to the Etihad Stadium in a deal that could reach £65 million.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past 18 months, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent and dynamic midfield performers.

His displays for Nottingham Forest have not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from several top clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Yet it is Manchester City who appear to have made the most decisive move.

City step ahead in pursuit of Anderson

City have identified Anderson as a priority addition ahead of the summer window, viewing him as a natural successor to Bernardo Silva, who will leave at the end of the season.

The club’s hierarchy are understood to be confident that their proactive approach has placed them firmly “right at the front of the queue” for his signature.

The midfielder, who began his senior career with Newcastle United, has developed significantly since making his move to Forest in 2024.

His ability to dictate tempo, carry the ball under pressure and contribute in both attacking and defensive phases has made him a standout performer in England’s top flight.

It is widely expected that Anderson will depart the City Ground at the end of the season, regardless of whether Forest retain their Premier League status.

Sources indicate that the player himself has “let it be known that moving to City is his preferred choice,” a stance that has strengthened the city’s position in negotiations.

City are keen to conclude the deal swiftly once the domestic campaign concludes, aiming to avoid a prolonged transfer saga.

The timing is significant, with the club mindful of Anderson’s growing reputation on the international stage.

There is a clear incentive for City to finalise the transfer before the summer’s global tournament, where Anderson is expected to play a prominent role for England national football team.

Having earned his first call-up in August for World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, Anderson had to wait until the following month to make his debut, featuring in a 2-0 victory over Andorra.

Despite his relatively recent introduction to international football, he has already made a strong impression on head coach Thomas Tuchel.

That impact has placed him firmly in contention for a place in Tuchel’s final squad for the tournament, fitness permitting.

Indeed, Anderson is anticipated to line up alongside Declan Rice in the centre of midfield, underlining the trust placed in him at the highest level.

City’s desire to complete the deal early reflects a strategic calculation. A successful World Cup campaign would almost certainly increase Anderson’s market value, potentially driving his price beyond the current £65 million valuation.

For now, however, the Sky Blues believe they hold the advantage. With the player signalling his preference and negotiations progressing, City are closing in on what could prove to be one of the defining transfers of the summer.
