Big Surprise As Goalkeeper Refuses To Leave Man City, Makes U-turn

Manchester City’s goalkeeping department has been the subject of major transfer speculation this summer, with Pep Guardiola reportedly considering a revamp to strengthen the squad.

However, in a twist that has surprised fans and pundits alike, Stefan Ortega rejects offer to leave Man City, opting instead to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Reports suggest that Guardiola’s long-term plan involves adding depth to the goalkeeping unit, with academy graduate James Trafford brought back from Burnley and Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma said to be finalising a switch to the Premier League champions.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Donnarumma is scheduled for a medical in Italy and could join City after the international break.

Guardiola Reshapes Goalkeeping Unit

The arrival of new names sparked speculation over the futures of Ederson Moraes and Stefan Ortega, with both goalkeepers linked with potential exits.

Ederson has already agreed a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in a £12 million deal, leaving Ortega’s situation in the spotlight.

The 31-year-old German was reportedly courted by several clubs, including promoted Premier League sides Burnley and Sunderland, as well as Fenerbahçe.

However, Ortega has made a dramatic U-turn, rejecting multiple offers and choosing to remain at Manchester City beyond the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail’s Jack Gaughan, “Hearing of a twist which has contributed to the Fenerbahce deal for Ederson. Manchester City’s current third-choice goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega, is believed to have turned down the Turkish giants during this window. And now they’ve agreed a £12m switch for the Brazilian.”

Ortega Set to Stay Beyond Deadline Day

The decision to stay has been described as a calculated move by Ortega, who reportedly only wants to leave if the right opportunity presents itself.

Gaughan adds, “Ortega has rejected several different offers over the summer. And those include promoted clubs Burnley and Sunderland. Unless something drastic changes before 7pm, Ortega will be remaining with City until January at least. He has only wanted to move if it felt right after the arrival of James Trafford.”
