For several seasons, FC Barcelona maintained a firm interest in Bernardo Silva, identifying the Manchester City midfielder as a key addition to their squad.
The Portugal international consistently featured on the club’s shortlist during successive transfer windows, particularly under former manager Xavi Hernandez.
Despite that sustained interest, a deal never came to fruition. Barcelona’s well-documented financial struggles proved to be a major stumbling block, preventing the Catalan side from completing a move for the playmaker.
By the time Hansi Flick assumed control, attention had shifted elsewhere, and the club’s pursuit of Silva appeared to have ended.
However, fresh developments suggest the situation may not be entirely closed.
According to A Bola (as reported via SPORT), Silva still harbours a strong desire to join Barcelona and could seek to make that ambition a reality as he approaches a potential departure from Manchester City this summer.
With his current contract at the Etihad Stadium set to expire at the end of the season, the 31-year-old is expected to be one of the notable names on the market.
Interest in his services remains high across multiple leagues, placing him in a strong position as he considers his next move.
Silva is reportedly keen to settle his future before the upcoming World Cup, ensuring clarity ahead of the international tournament.
Sources indicate he is unlikely to be short of offers, reflecting both his experience and enduring quality at the top level.
Even though Barcelona have yet to take concrete steps towards securing his signature, the club continues to hold a special appeal for Silva.
The midfielder believes he could still play an important role in the team being shaped by Flick, and the idea of competing in La Liga remains attractive.
Previously, Silva demonstrated his commitment to the move by being willing to accept reduced financial terms. Yet, Barcelona’s economic constraints ultimately prevented negotiations from progressing.
Those financial limitations still linger, and they remain a key factor influencing the club’s transfer decisions.
Other options emerge as decision approaches
While Barcelona remains Silva’s preferred destination, alternative opportunities are beginning to take shape.
The midfielder has already started narrowing down his choices as he prepares for a likely exit from Manchester City.
One option he has dismissed is a return to Portugal. A move back to Benfica, where he began his professional career, is not currently under consideration.

Instead, Silva is focused on continuing his career at the highest level of European football.
There has also been interest from outside Europe. A potential switch to Inter Miami in the United States has been mentioned as a possibility.
However, sources suggest that such a move is not his first choice, with the player prioritising competition in Europe for the time being.
Among the clubs actively pursuing him, Juventus have made the most concrete approach. The Italian side are understood to have tabled a three-year contract, accompanied by a signing bonus, in an effort to secure his services.
This offer places Juventus in a strong position, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding Barcelona’s intentions.
