Manchester City Injury List: Phil Foden Back in Training, But Gvardiol Still a Doubt for Wolves Clash

Manchester City’s preparations for their 2025/26 Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers have been shaped by injury concerns.

The Cityzens have endured a difficult few months with several key players sidelined — a factor that played a part in their struggles in major competitions last season.

Pep Guardiola’s side faced Italian outfit Palermo in a pre-season friendly last week without some of their big names. Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic, and Rodri all missed the trip.

Rodri’s absence was particularly notable, with the Spaniard picking up another setback during the FIFA Club World Cup after already missing months of action.

Phil Foden Back in Training, Rodri also Spotted Back on the Pitch

Before the Palermo game, Guardiola revealed that Foden had only suffered a minor knock to his ankle, insisting his omission was purely a safety measure.

“Phil was doing really good but he had a problem with a knock on his ankle that’s why as a precaution we did it,” Guardiola explained.

The positive news for City fans is that Foden is back in training ahead of Manchester City vs Wolves. Given his creativity and sharpness, his inclusion could provide a major boost as the champions look to start strongly.

Rodri was also seen taking part in Friday’s training session. However, his situation is more complicated. After a lengthy spell out, the Ballon d’Or winner briefly returned before suffering another injury blow.

While his presence on the training pitch is encouraging, it’s unlikely he will be ready for competitive action against Wolves, with Guardiola expected to ease him back carefully.

Gvardiol Still Missing, Remains a Doubt Vs Wolves

Josko Gvardiol’s status remains uncertain. Like Foden, the Croatian defender was kept out of the Palermo trip as a precaution. But unlike the midfielder, Gvardiol has not been spotted in the latest training sessions.

His continued absence raises doubts about his availability for the opening weekend.

Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero has urged his former club to go after the league title and reclaim it from Liverpool.
