Sack Pep Guardiola: Man City Boss Under Pressure To Beat United

Manchester City could be under increasing pressure to sack Pep Guardiola if their poor run of form continues.

The Spaniard, who has transformed City into one of Europe’s most dominant sides since arriving in 2016, faces fresh scrutiny after a rocky start to the season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy suggested that Guardiola could be under real pressure if he fails to deliver the right results in the coming weeks.

Like parts of last season, City’s early campaign has been far from convincing. A comfortable opening-day win over Wolverhampton was quickly overshadowed by back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Brighton.

Those results have raised doubts about the consistency of a side once regarded as unstoppable under Guardiola.

The pressure now heightens as City prepare to welcome Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium in a highly-anticipated clash next week.

Pep Must Defeat United To Avoid Pressure

For some Manchester City fans, Guardiola remains untouchable given his track record: four consecutive Premier League titles, a Champions League crown, and multiple domestic cups.

Yet others argue that his era is nearing its natural end, suggesting the club should consider a change if results continue to dip.

The upcoming derby against United could prove decisive. A defeat would not only deepen City’s troubles but also fuel conversations over whether the board might sack Pep Guardiola before his contract runs out.

Jason Cundy reflected this sentiment on talkSPORT, warning that the spotlight will shift heavily depending on the outcome.

“If United beat City, you watch the spotlight turn on City. It’s a big game for both because, whoever loses, the spotlight turns firmly on them,” Cundy said.

Such high-stakes pressure is nothing new for Guardiola, but in the era of quick managerial turnovers, even the most decorated coaches are not immune to scrutiny.

Is Guardiola Still Untouchable At City?

Cundy went further by reminding listeners that no manager should consider themselves beyond dismissal:

Speak further, Cundy claimed that no manager is unsackable; therefore Manchester City could also sack Pep Guardiola but this would be very difficult.

The talkSPORT pundit pointed out that City’s board stood by Guardiola during a difficult run last season, when the team lost six consecutive matches across all competitions.

That faith ultimately paid off as City rallied late to secure a Champions League spot and end the season on a positive note.

However, modern football is unforgiving. A club with City’s ambition, finances, and expectations cannot afford prolonged periods without success.
