Pep Guardiola reveals what he was thinking after Arsenal controversial win against West Ham

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola explains what he was thinking after Arsenal’s narrow victory over West Ham United which continues to dominate discussion across the Premier League.

Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Ham sparked intense reaction after the visitors believed they had rescued a late equaliser, only for the goal to be ruled out following intervention from the Video Assistant Referee.

The decision, which centred on a challenge involving Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, has divided pundits and supporters alike, with many debating whether the contact justified disallowing the goal.

The incident immediately became one of the most talked-about moments of the weekend, especially as the Premier League title race edges closer to its conclusion.

Arsenal’s victory ensured they remained firmly in contention, while City continue to chase another league crown under Guardiola.

Yet when Guardiola faced reporters before City’s meeting with Crystal Palace, the Spaniard appeared uninterested in revisiting the controversy.

Instead, he insisted his focus remained solely on his own side’s preparations and the challenge Palace could present.

“Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace, and thinking what we have to do,” Guardiola said when asked about his thoughts on the match according to City Xtra

“What you cannot control, forget about it. Do better, what we have not better this season, to arrive in a better position to fight for the Premier League. And Crystal Palace.”

Throughout his time in England, the City manager has regularly avoided becoming drawn into refereeing debates involving rival clubs, preferring instead to emphasise performances his own team can influence.

He further turned his attention toward Crystal Palace, a side he believes could have a major influence on how the campaign finishes.

Guardiola warns Crystal Palace can shape the title race

Guardiola spoke warmly about Palace during his media briefing, praising the professionalism and competitive mentality within the squad ahead of crucial matches against both Manchester City and Arsenal.

The City manager suggested Palace’s remaining fixtures could play an important role in deciding where the Premier League trophy ends up, particularly because of the London club’s determination to compete regardless of circumstance.

“They are so professional, the teams,” Guardiola said. “Crystal Palace will play top against us. I’m pretty sure they’ll do their best [vs Arsenal] knowing that they have the UEFA European Conference League final three days later.”

Palace’s growing reputation under their current setup has earned admiration across the division. Their ability to trouble leading sides, combined with a disciplined defensive structure and dangerous attacking threats, has made them one of the league’s most unpredictable opponents.

For Guardiola, that unpredictability appears to command complete respect.

His comments suggested he expects Palace to approach both title challengers with the same intensity, regardless of fixture congestion or external narratives surrounding the race for the title.

Guardiola clearly expects a difficult encounter and believes Palace will compete fiercely against every opponent they face.

However, whether Arsenal’s controversial win becomes a decisive moment in the season remains to be seen. What is certain is that Guardiola has little interest in dwelling on it.
