It’s a new 2025/26 Premier League campaign, and as expected, English clubs are full of hope again, especially the teams dreaming of winning the league title.
Without a doubt, Manchester City, even after a disappointing run last season, remain one of the strongest contenders.
Pep Guardiola’s men have been the most successful team in the past decade, lifting the trophy several times. They have achieved incredible results, becoming champions even when few expected it.
But despite their past glory, Steven Gerrard does not see City as the winners of the 2025/26 Premier League.
Former Liverpool Player Claims Man City Will Finish Third In 2025/26 Premier League Campaign
When Pep Guardiola is in charge, his team is usually near the top. The Spanish coach is a proven winner who knows how to challenge for trophies year after year.
However, last season was different. City could not keep up with Liverpool, who went on to become champions, or Arsenal, who finished second. It was only the second time in Guardiola’s career that he ended a season in third place. And Gerrard believes history will repeat itself this season.
Speaking to GOAL, the Liverpool legend backed Liverpool and Arsenal to finish above Manchester City again.
However, this is a change from his earlier view when he once said that any team finishing above City would automatically win the league.
He explained: “I think you have to be wary of City and Guardiola. Best manager in the world, they’ve done it four years on the spin, they lost Rodri, which was a big blow for them.
“I think with a fully-fit squad, I think the team that finishes above City will win it again.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City have added several experienced players to their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
Also, there are rumours that more signings could happen before the summer transfer window closes.
