Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes supporters have not yet seen the very best of one of his players after he produced a standout display in City’s FA Cup victory over Newcastle United.
Savinho played a decisive role as Manchester City recovered from an early setback to secure a 3–1 win and advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
His performance drew particular praise from Guardiola, who suggested that the young attacker still has another level to reach.
City fell behind early in the contest, but the momentum shifted once Savinho began to influence proceedings on the flank. The Brazilian equalised to pull the hosts level and spark a turnaround that eventually saw Guardiola’s side claim a comfortable victory.
His goal provided the platform for City to regain control of the match before adding two more to seal progression in the competition.
Savinho’s display was filled with pace, direct running and confidence in possession. His ability to take on defenders repeatedly caused problems for Newcastle’s back line and gave City an attacking outlet whenever they needed it.
Guardiola highlighted the winger’s natural ability in one-on-one situations, suggesting that his attacking instincts already make him a difficult player for defenders to handle.
“At that age, in the one-against-one, he is unstoppable,” he said.
The City manager also indicated that the 21-year-old’s development is still ongoing and that improvements in his final decision-making could elevate him even further.
“When we finish the final product, he will be a top, top class player.”
Although Savinho’s performance attracted attention, Guardiola stressed that the victory was built on a strong collective effort from his squad.
City’s response after conceding early impressed the manager, who praised the mentality shown by his players as they worked their way back into the match.
“It’s one of the best feelings,” he said.
Guardiola also pointed to the reliability of defender Nathan Aké, whose performance helped maintain stability at the back while City pushed forward in search of goals.
“Really all the managers have that feeling, look at the performance of Nathan [Ake] – how reliable he is.”
The Spaniard added that every player involved contributed positively to the result, even those who do not always feature regularly.

“All of them, there is not one single one that didn’t behave their best.”
For Guardiola, competitions such as the FA Cup provide valuable opportunities for squad players to stay sharp and demonstrate their qualities when called upon.
“Sometimes you don’t allow them to play much minutes and always you have that feeling,” he said.
The City boss suggested that maintaining involvement across multiple competitions benefits both the team and individual players, as it allows more members of the squad to take part in meaningful matches.
“That’s why it’s nice to be in the competitions because it’s nice for them to be involved.”
The victory keeps City firmly in contention for domestic silverware this season while offering further encouragement about the development of younger players such as Savinho.
