Man City set to announce new player on a five-year contract

Manchester City are set to strengthen their ranks with the arrival of highly-rated French defender Hermann Malonga after reports in France indicated that an agreement has been reached for the teenager to join the club on a long-term contract.

The 18-year-old centre-back is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his current deal expires at the end of the month, allowing City to secure his services without paying a transfer fee.

According to reports from France, the player has already chosen his next destination and is preparing to complete the move in the near future.

Malonga’s development has attracted considerable attention despite the fact that he has yet to make a senior appearance for PSG.

His performances at youth level, however, have convinced Manchester City that he possesses the qualities required to become a top-level defender in the years ahead.

From Paris Academy talent to Manchester City’s next project

Malonga’s football journey began away from the spotlight. He left FC Melun in 2017 and joined AS Lieusaint Football Jugend on a free transfer before moving again just one year later to US Sénart-Moissy Jugend.

His progress continued steadily, and after spending three years with US Sénart-Moissy, he earned a move to the PSG academy in 2021.

Since then, he has represented both the club’s Under-17 and Under-19 sides while building a reputation as one of the promising young defenders within the French champions’ youth structure.

Although PSG recognised his potential and attempted to persuade him to remain in the French capital, reports suggest the youngster has opted for a different path.

French newspaper Le Parisien reports that the France Under-17 international decided to reject PSG’s proposal for a contract extension and instead commit his future to Manchester City.

The report states that he has already reached an agreement with the English club on a five-year contract.

City’s recruitment staff are understood to have monitored the defender closely over an extended period.

His displays in the UEFA Youth League reportedly strengthened their belief that he could develop into a player capable of performing at the highest level.

The club’s scouting department is said to be particularly impressed by his long-term potential.

Rather than rushing his development, Manchester City are believed to have formulated a pathway designed to give the teenager valuable senior experience before integrating him into their first-team plans.

Further confirmation came from French sports daily L’Equipe, which also reported that Malonga has accepted a five-year deal with Manchester City and is expected to formally complete the transfer in the “coming days”.

Loan strategy could shape defender’s future development

While Malonga’s immediate future appears to lie with Manchester City, his first competitive appearances may come elsewhere.

The plan is not expected to involve an immediate promotion into City’s first-team squad. Instead, the teenager is likely to gain experience through a loan move designed to accelerate his development in senior football.

Such an approach would fit neatly into the broader structure available to the club through the City Football Group network.

The organisation owns French side ES Troyes AC and Belgian club Lommel SK, while also maintaining a significant stake in Spanish outfit Girona.

Those connections could provide several potential destinations for Malonga as he seeks regular playing time and valuable competitive experience.

A move to one of those clubs remains a possibility, although other loan opportunities could also be explored.
