Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed he is preparing to rotate his squad heavily for the Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace as the Sky continues a demanding run of fixtures across domestic competitions.
City strengthened their title ambitions with an impressive 3-0 victory over Brentford at the weekend, but the performance also highlighted the growing importance of squad depth during the closing weeks of the campaign.
Guardiola has relied on a relatively settled starting line-up in recent league matches, making only minimal adjustments across the last five outings.
However, Saturday’s contest showed the influence of players introduced from the bench, with Omar Marmoush, Phil Foden and Savinho all playing decisive roles after coming on.
The breakthrough moment arrived shortly after Guardiola turned to his substitutes. City immediately found greater energy and attacking sharpness, overwhelming Brentford with quick movement and sharper passing in the final third.
Marmoush and Foden helped drive the side forward, while Savinho added creativity and pace down the flank as the host maintained complete control of the game.
One of the standout moments came from an intricate attacking move involving Savinho and Foden before Erling Haaland produced a perfectly weighted pass for Marmoush to finish confidently.
The goal marked only the Egyptian forward’s second Premier League strike of the season, but Guardiola appeared especially pleased with the contribution from his squad players at a critical stage of the campaign.
The City manager admitted he had planned to assess the wider Premier League picture before finalising his plans for the Palace encounter, particularly with the result of Arsenal’s meeting with West Ham still pending at the time he addressed the media.
Yet Guardiola made it clear that preserving the fitness and freshness of his squad has become essential with an intense schedule ahead.
City are preparing for a crucial period that includes not only the league fixture against Palace but also the FA Cup final and a difficult away trip to Bournemouth within the space of a week.
Guardiola suggested that continuing to use the same players repeatedly could leave his side physically drained at the most important moment of the season.
Speaking after the win over Brentford, Guardiola praised the players who made an impact from the bench and hinted strongly that several of them would be handed starting opportunities in the next match.
“Top,” he began. “I know it’s not easy for them but I am pretty sure the next games they are going to play.
“I’m going to rotate the team otherwise we cannot arrive at the final or Bournemouth how we want to,” he told the club official website
The comments are likely to mean some of City’s biggest names could start on the bench against Palace as Guardiola attempts to carefully manage workloads.
Haaland continues remarkable goalscoring form
While Guardiola prepares to reshuffle his side, Haaland once again underlined his importance to City with another goal against Brentford.
The Norwegian striker continues to produce extraordinary numbers, and his latest strike brought his tally to 50 goals for club and country this season.
The forward remains favourite to claim another Premier League Golden Boot, a feat that would represent his third such award in four seasons in English football.
His consistency in front of goal has once again been central to City’s pursuit of major honours, while he has also played a leading role internationally after helping Norway move closer to a first World Cup appearance since 1998.
Guardiola was full of admiration for his striker following the latest victory, although he also revealed concerns about the enormous physical demands placed upon the 24-year-old during the campaign.
“He’s incredible,” said Pep. “There was a period when he was so tired after Norway qualified for the World Cup.

“The difference for example is I saw the minutes of Ousmane Dembele and Erling has played 2,000 more. It’s a lot of minutes.”
Despite concerns over fatigue, Guardiola insisted Haaland’s qualities remain unmatched.
The manager explained that the striker’s movement and presence inside the penalty area continue to create problems for every opponent City face, even during matches where he receives limited service.
“Erling is always Erling. Threat for the opponent and a sense of goal,” Guardiola added.
“Erling just has to bring players close to him when we arrive from the sides.
“Then we will score more and more goals. When he’s alone in the box it’s so difficult.”
