Manchester City have made it clear that any club hoping to prise their best player away from the Etihad Stadium would have to table an extraordinary offer, with the Sky Blues unwilling to sanction the departure of their top talent this summer.
Despite a slight dip in form by his remarkably high standards, City remain fully committed to Erling Haaland, viewing him as a central figure in their long-term plans rather than a player available for transfer.
The Norwegian striker has enjoyed another productive campaign overall, although recent performances have sparked conversation about his immediate future.
The 25-year-old has found the net just once in his last five appearances for Manchester City, a run that has been described as a rare downturn given his usual consistency in front of goal.
That brief lull has inevitably attracted attention from Europe’s elite, with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona frequently mentioned as possible suitors. However, City’s position appears unwavering.
City stand firm despite speculation
Reports indicate that Manchester City are not entertaining the idea of selling Haaland in the foreseeable future. Any potential negotiation, it is understood, would only begin if an offer of staggering proportions were presented.
The striker joined City from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth approximately £51 million, a transfer that has since been widely regarded as exceptional value considering his goal-scoring output.
However, his reported weekly earnings of £525,000 underline the significant financial commitment the club has made to secure and retain his services.
City’s reluctance to part ways with Haaland is also tied to their broader ambitions. With the Premier League title race intensifying, particularly with Arsenal FC pushing strongly, the club will be relying on their leading striker to rediscover top form quickly.
An opportunity to respond comes imminently, with Haaland expected to play a key role in the Carabao Cup final.
Speaking on the Football Insider podcast, transfer expert Pete O’Rourke reinforced the club’s stance, stating: “I don’t see any way that Manchester City will be opening any doors for Erling Haaland to leave.”
Long-term vision centred on Haaland
Manchester City’s confidence in Haaland is further demonstrated by the long-term contract he signed in January, which ties him to the club until 2031. The agreement reflects both stability and intent, with City aiming to build their attacking future around him.
O’Rourke added: “He signed a new long-term contract last January, which keeps him at the Etihad until 2031. City will be very keen to keep him and build around Haaland, rather than letting him leave.”

While speculation linking him to Spain’s biggest clubs persists, the financial realities of any potential transfer present a significant obstacle.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are known admirers, yet any deal would require not only record-breaking figures but also a shift in City’s current position.
“The rumours with Barcelona and Real Madrid, they’re never going to go away because he will be such a dream signing for both of those clubs,” O’Rourke explained. “but financially it would take a huge amount of money, and as I said, City have no desire to let him go either.”
For now, Haaland remains a crucial part of Manchester City’s present and future, with the club determined to retain their star forward as they continue to compete on multiple fronts.
