Out-on-loan Manchester City forward Divin Mubama was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering a serious injury during Stoke City’s Championship match against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
The 21-year-old striker was hurt in the second half of the game at the bet365 Stadium and needed urgent medical treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off.
He was later taken away in an ambulance, with reports saying he required oxygen as medical staff continued to assess his condition.
Mubama has been on loan at Stoke since the summer and has been one of their standout attacking players this season. His injury cast a shadow over the match, with players, staff and supporters clearly concerned as the incident unfolded.
Injury incident brings match to a halt
The incident happened midway through the second half when Mubama challenged for the ball during a Stoke attack. Queens Park Rangers defender Jimmy Dunne lunged into a tackle, catching the striker heavily.
Mubama immediately went down and appeared to be in serious pain. The referee stopped play straight away as Stoke’s medical team ran onto the pitch to help the forward.
Players from both sides stood nearby, many looking worried as the medical staff treated him.
After several minutes, it became clear that Mubama could not continue. A stretcher was brought onto the pitch and he was carefully lifted off by medical staff.
Supporters inside the stadium applauded as he was carried away, showing their support for the young striker.
Soon after, an ambulance arrived at the stadium. Mubama was taken directly to hospital for further checks and treatment.
Manchester Evening News later confirmed that he had needed oxygen while receiving care on the pitch. It was also confirmed that Divin Mubama was taken to hospital, underlining the seriousness of the incident.
BBC Radio 5 Live reporter Sanny Rudravajhala described the scene on social media.
He wrote on X: “A serious injury to Man City loanee Divin Mubama at Stoke City. Horrible challenge by QPR’s Jimmy Dunne. Mubama distressed, stretchered off and receiving significant medical treatment.”
Stoke City have not yet given a detailed update on Mubama’s condition, but the club is expected to release more information once full medical assessments have been completed.
Queens Park Rangers have also yet to comment further on the challenge that led to the injury.
The match resumed after a lengthy delay, but the focus for many was no longer on the result. Both sets of players appeared affected by what had happened, with the incident reminding everyone of the risks involved in the game.
Mubama’s rise from Man City to Stoke loan spell
Divin Mubama joined Manchester City from West Ham United in 2024 as a highly rated young striker. Known for his movement, pressing and eye for goal, he quickly made an impression at City despite limited first-team opportunities.
Last season, Mubama announced himself to a wider audience during Manchester City’s FA Cup run. He showed composure and sharp attacking instincts, earning praise from coaches and supporters alike.
One of the highlights of his City career so far came in January, when he scored in an emphatic 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford City. That performance helped him push closer to Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans.
Later that month, Mubama made his Premier League debut against Ipswich Town, marking another important step in his development.
Although his appearances were limited, Guardiola spoke highly of the striker’s qualities and potential.

Following Mubama’s debut goal, the City manager said: “His movements are unbelievable. The way he moves in right tempo, the way he presses.
“The movement for the first goal is perfectly as a striker, it looks easy but how he made the one counter movement against the defender… It’s really, really good! I’m really pleased for many positive things.”
In search of regular football, Mubama moved on loan to Stoke City at the start of the season. The Championship side hoped his pace, strength and finishing ability would boost their attacking options.
The move has worked well so far. Mubama has scored five goals and provided one assist this term, becoming a key figure in Stoke’s forward line.
His performances have earned him praise from fans and coaching staff, with many seeing him as one of the club’s most dangerous attackers.
Before Divin Mubama was taken to hospital as a result of the injury, he was leading the line against QPR and had been heavily involved in Stoke’s attacking play. His pace and movement caused problems for the QPR defence, making the sudden end to his match even more frustrating.
